Skip Warps (Wrong Warps)

Wrong warps (also called skip warps) are glitch techniques in Elden Ring that allow players to teleport to unintended locations, enabling access to late-game areas far earlier than intended. These exploits are essential for speedrunners, challenge run enthusiasts, and players creating specific-level PvP builds while preserving exploration areas.

What Are Wrong Warps?

A wrong warp exploits the game's fast travel system by interrupting the warp process at a precise moment. When the game loses your exact position during a warp, it spawns you at the default location of the area you're warping from—often bypassing major progression requirements.

Common uses include:

  • Accessing Leyndell without 2 Great Runes
  • Reaching Nokron without defeating Starscourge Radahn
  • Entering Crumbling Farum Azula early for endgame items
  • Skipping the Rold Medallion requirement for Mountaintops of the Giants

How Wrong Warps Work

There are three primary methods for performing wrong warps:

1. Force Quit Wrong Warp (Most Common)

The standard method on current patches. Warp from an area, then force quit (ALT+F4 on PC) to make the game lose your exact position.

Basic execution:

  1. Initiate fast travel to a specific destination
  2. Watch the loading bar reach approximately 95-99%
  3. Force quit the game immediately when the bar completes
  4. Upon restarting, spawn at the wrong warp destination

2. Map Wrong Warp

Uses the Memory of Grace item. Open the map just before warping to your last rested grace, then quickly warp to a different grace. This causes you to warp to the default location of your map warp destination.

3. Unstable Position Wrong Warp

Exploit unstable ground (areas where the game doesn't save your position) by force-quitting. The game respawns you at the default area location.

Requirements

Platform Considerations

  • PC: Most consistent. Use ALT+F4 or Task Manager to force quit
  • Console: Works but timing is trickier—force quit slightly earlier due to input delay
  • All platforms: Stable 60 FPS recommended for consistent timing

Recommended Settings (PC)

Lower all graphics settings to maintain stable 60 FPS:

  • Resolution: Low
  • Graphics quality: Low
  • This ensures consistent frame timing for the glitch

Useful Items

  • Memory of Grace: Required for Map Wrong Warps
  • Imbued Sword Keys: Needed for Four Belfries portal access
  • Camera speed set to 0 can help with certain methods

Skip Locations

Leyndell, Royal Capital

Bypasses: Two Great Runes requirement

Prerequisites:

  • Access to the Tower of Return trap chest (Weeping Peninsula)
  • Divine Bridge Site of Grace activated

Step-by-step (Patch 1.10+):

  1. Travel to Weeping Peninsula and find the Tower of Return
  2. Open the trap chest to teleport to the Divine Bridge
  3. Rest at the Divine Bridge Site of Grace
  4. Open the map and select Roundtable Hold as your warp destination
  5. As the loading bar reaches 95%, hold ALT+F4 (PC) or force quit
  6. Stop Steam/close the game completely
  7. Reload your save—you'll spawn inside Leyndell, Royal Capital

Note: On Patch 1.13, this method still works. Timing is precise—if you spawn at Roundtable Hold, you quit too late.

Interesting quirk: When wrong warping into Leyndell, you may temporarily see the Ash Capital version. It reverts to normal Leyndell upon fast traveling away.

Nokron, Eternal City

Bypasses: Defeating Starscourge Radahn

There are two methods to reach Nokron early:

Method 1: Siofra River Death Warp

  1. Travel to Siofra River and head to where Blaidd stands near the spiritspring
  2. Fall off the nearby cliff to trigger a death
  3. While the death screen loads, force quit the game
  4. Reload your save—you'll spawn at the fog gate before the Mimic Tear boss

Method 2: Four Belfries Portal

  1. Activate a wrong warp-enabling grace beforehand (Stormhill Shack, Perfumer's Grotto, or Audience Pathway)
  2. Travel to The Four Belfries in Liurnia
  3. Retrieve the Imbued Sword Key from the chest at the top
  4. Use the key on the highest portal (closest to the chest)
  5. Enter the portal to reach an isolated Nokron section
  6. Warp to your pre-activated grace and force quit during loading
  7. Reload at the Mimic Tear fog gate

Pro tip: Defeat Mimic Tear easily by unequipping all gear before entering, then reequipping during the fight.

Crumbling Farum Azula

Bypasses: Normal story progression (requires defeating Fire Giant normally)

Prerequisites:

  • Access to The Four Belfries
  • Imbued Sword Key

Step-by-step:

  1. Travel to The Four Belfries in West Liurnia
  2. Use an Imbued Sword Key on the portal that leads to Farum Azula
  3. Enter the portal (you'll be in an isolated preview area)
  4. Open the map and warp to Roundtable Hold
  5. Force quit at 99% loading bar completion
  6. Reload—you'll spawn at the Farum Azula default location

Why use this?

  • Access endgame weapons and talismans early
  • Aesthetically avoid the burning Erdtree in your world
  • Essential for low-level challenge runs

Mountaintops of the Giants

Bypasses: Rold Medallion requirement

Step-by-step:

  1. Enter the Great Lift of Rold (even without the medallion)
  2. Open the map and warp to Stormhill Shack grace
  3. Force quit during the loading screen
  4. Reload your save—you'll spawn at the top of the lift

This allows access to the Mountaintops without obtaining either Rold Medallion piece.

Moonlight Altar

Bypasses: Ranni's questline prerequisites

Method: Death warp from southwestern Liurnia

  1. Travel to the cliffs in southwestern Liurnia near the Divine Tower
  2. Fall to trigger a death in a specific location
  3. Force quit during the death loading screen
  4. Reload at the Moonlight Altar default spawn

ZIP Glitch (Advanced)

The ZIP glitch is a separate technique that teleports players massive distances by exploiting the block animation. This is extremely difficult and primarily used by speedrunners.

How It Works

During the block animation, pressing walk forward/backward at a precise frame window causes the character to "zip" across the map.

Execution

  1. Hold the block button
  2. On frames 125-135 of the blocking animation, press W or S
  3. The input window for movement is only 4-10 frames
  4. If successful, you'll zip across the game world

Tips

  • Use a metronome set to 109 BPM—after 4 beats, press W (don't hold)
  • Requires stable 60 FPS (lower all graphics settings)
  • This glitch is most consistent on PC, but can be performed on consoles with significantly more difficulty
  • Expect dozens of attempts before success

Safety & Quest Compatibility

Save File Safety

Wrong warps do not corrupt save files. The technique is similar to wrong warps in Zelda games—the game simply resets affected areas when you fast travel away.

NPC Quest Impact

Wrong warping to areas early may affect some NPC questlines:

  • Some NPCs may not appear in their expected locations
  • Quest triggers might be skipped
  • Warning: Certain skips can permanently lock quest rewards if completed in the wrong order
  • Brother Corhyn and similar merchants generally remain functional

Reversibility

Areas accessed via wrong warp reset to normal when you:

  • Fast travel to a different area
  • Progress the story normally
  • Rest at a Site of Grace in another region
