343 Guilty Spark
343 Guilty Spark is the sixth campaign level in Halo: Combat Evolved. This atmospheric horror level introduces the Flood and contains some unique glitches.
Stay in Pelican
Ride the Pelican dropship instead of immediately exiting, allowing you to experience a unique perspective of the level.
How to Perform
- The level begins with you in a Pelican
- As soon as you gain control, immediately throw a grenade
- The grenade explosion keeps you inside the Pelican
- Ride the Pelican until it reaches its final destination
- Exit using the vehicle exit button when the Pelican stops
What You Experience
- See the level from an aerial view
- Watch the Pelican's flight path
- Exit at a different location than intended
The Lone Marine
Discover a hidden, isolated Marine in an unexpected location.
How to Perform
- As soon as you gain control at the start, run to the opposite side of the Pelican
- Look for a nearby rock formation
- Jump onto the rock
- As the Pelican begins to fly away, jump onto it
- Ride the Pelican to a higher ledge
- Jump off onto the ledge
- Head left along the ledge
- You'll find a single Marine standing alone, without weapons
The Marine
This Marine appears to be a leftover from development—he has no weapons, no dialogue, and simply stands in this hidden location. Finding him is a classic Halo CE easter egg hunt.
Flood Bump Technique
While more commonly used on "Keyes," the Flood Bump technique originates from levels featuring the Flood.
How It Works
- Find a "Reviver" Flood Combat Form (a corpse that will reanimate)
- Stand on top of it
- When the Flood form revives, the physics engine pushes you away
- This can teleport you through walls or doors
On This Level
- Can be used to clip through certain doors
- Timing is critical—only ~40% of Combat Forms are Revivers
- Practice identifying which corpses will reanimate
Swamp Navigation Shortcuts
The swamp area has several shortcuts for speedruns.
Direct Path
- Instead of following the intended winding path, look for direct routes
- Some rocks and terrain can be used to skip sections
- Grenade jumps can reach higher ground
Tips
- The Pelican ride is fun but not useful for speedruns
- Finding the Lone Marine is a classic exploration challenge
- The Flood Bump technique is valuable for later levels
- This level is relatively linear with fewer major skips
